OIC-IPHRC calls for equality, dignity, and full Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities

Jeddah, 3 December 2025: The Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) joins the international community in commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to protecting their rights, promoting their dignity, and enabling their full and equal participation in society.

The Commission notes that, despite progress, persons with disabilities continue to face obstacles related to high levels of poverty, employment discrimination, low wages and inadequate support at the workplace. Social protection systems often fall short of meeting their actual needs, particularly for those working in the informal sector, while traditional forms of care continue to restrict their independence and inclusion.

The Commission emphasizes that the values and principles of Islam, which call for dignity, justice, and compassion provide moral and religious foundation for promoting and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities as an integral part of the social fabric.

The Commission reiterates its call to OIC Member States to strengthen legislation and policies that support the rights of persons with disabilities, increase access, enable them to engage in decent work, improve social protection, and develop community support systems that enhance their independence and participation in development efforts.
